Professional Pathways

CPI offers flexible study pathways designed for working professionals with different levels of experience, prior learning and workplace competence.

Standard Professional Pathway
Duration: 18 months (1 year and 6 months)

The standard pathway provides sufficient time for technical instruction, laboratory activities, workplace-based learning, practical assessments and completion of the engineering capstone project.

Accelerated Professional Pathway
Eligible applicants with relevant qualifications, technical experience or recognised prior learning may complete the programme in approximately 12 months through an approved accelerated study plan.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) enables applicants to receive formal recognition for relevant knowledge and competence acquired through employment, previous study, professional training, apprenticeships or substantial engineering experience.

Following an assessment of evidence against the qualification requirements, eligible learners may receive an individual learning plan and, where appropriate, complete the qualification in a shorter period.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements specified by the awarding organisation. However, applicants are strongly recommended to have a Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Construction, Physics or Mathematics. CPI may conduct an initial assessment to confirm that applicants are prepared for study at Level 5 and have access to suitable practical and assessment opportunities.

Progression

Graduates may progress to a degree route in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or pursue employment and advancement in civil engineering, structural works, construction management, surveying, highways, bridges, water and waste water systems, geotechnical work, estimating, infrastructure inspection and project support.

Delivery Method

Related theory, engineering calculations, drawing and design, surveying practice, field activities, construction applications, practical projects and workplace-based assessments are integrated throughout the programme. Delivery combines live online instruction, face-to-face practical sessions, guided independent study and work-based learning.

Assessment includes practical activities, technical drawings, calculations, fieldwork, projects, written assignments, case studies and workplace-verified evidence. Assessments are internally set and assessed, and all required assessment criteria must be achieved.
