The Level 5 Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering develops advanced technical knowledge, practical competence and supervisory skills required for modern engineering environments. Learners study electrical engineering principles, electronic systems, industrial automation, communications, instrumentation, engineering mathematics, control systems, circuit analysis and contemporary engineering technologies used across commercial, industrial and manufacturing sectors.
CPI's professional pathway is designed for working adults who already possess relevant technical knowledge, workplace competence or engineering experience but may not hold formal qualifications at the required level. Delivery combines instructor-led teaching, practical laboratory activities, workplace-based learning, engineering projects and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling learners to build on existing experience while developing the competencies expected of modern engineering professionals.
This programme is suitable for experienced persons working in electrical, electronics, industrial, manufacturing, maintenance, automation, telecommunications, information technology or related technical environments.
The programme comprises five qualification units. Four common workplace units develop the professional knowledge required across all engineering disciplines, while the fifth unit provides the specialist technical competence in Electronics Engineering and Electronics Engineering.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering is the core technical component of the qualification. It accounts for the majority of the programme and develops the advanced knowledge, practical laboratory skills and engineering competence required for professional practice across electrical, electronic, industrial and manufacturing environments.
For structured delivery, CPI has expanded this core component into ten integrated technical modules, allowing learners to progressively develop theoretical understanding alongside extensive practical laboratory experience and workplace application.
CPI offers flexible study pathways designed for working professionals with different levels of experience, prior learning and workplace competence.
Standard Professional Pathway
Duration: 18 months (1 year and 6 months)
The standard pathway provides sufficient time for technical instruction, laboratory activities, workplace-based learning, practical assessments and completion of the engineering capstone project.
Accelerated Professional Pathway
Eligible applicants with relevant qualifications, technical experience or recognised prior learning may complete the programme in approximately 12 months through an approved accelerated study plan.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) enables applicants to receive formal recognition for relevant knowledge and competence acquired through employment, previous study, professional training, apprenticeships or substantial engineering experience.
Following an assessment of evidence against the qualification requirements, eligible learners may receive an individual learning plan and, where appropriate, complete the qualification in a shorter period.
Admission is intended primarily for applicants who can demonstrate relevant technical qualifications, workplace experience or existing competence in electrical, electronics or related engineering disciplines.
Applicants seeking entry to the Accelerated Professional Pathway or through Recognition of Prior Learning may be required to complete an initial assessment, technical interview or portfolio review.
Graduates may progress into careers or further study in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, industrial automation, manufacturing, electrical maintenance, instrumentation, process control, renewable energy, telecommunications, industrial operations, building services engineering, engineering supervision and technical management.
Assessment include practical activities, work-based projects, written work and workplace verified evidence. There are no exams.
